Kindergarten Learning

Curriculum & Programs
Beanstalk International Kindergartens follow the “IPC” (International Primary Curriculum, Early Years Program), a curriculum specially designed for children from 2 – 5 years old.

We believe that:

  • The overriding purpose of early years education is to help children develop the skills and attitudes they will need both at this level and throughout a lifetime of learning.
  • Children need a holistic educational experience that doesn’t create artificial boundaries between different aspects of their development.
  • Play is an essential part of children’s learning and general development.
The activities undertaken by children aged 3 to 5 help them work towards the subject, personal and international goals of the IPC Main Program.

The IPC Early Years Programme provides them with:

  • The Learning Strands, outlining the four key areas of learning – Independence and Interdependence, Communicating, Exploring and Healthy Living.

About the “IPC”
The principle of the IPC is to focus on a combination of academic, personal and international learning for children worldwide combined with innovative and exciting ways to learn.
The IPC is designed to help children learn essential knowledge and skills and develop an understanding of a broad range of curriculum subjects.

The IPC uses thematic units of work (each lasting on average of 4 week). Each unit separates yet integrates many primary subjects including history, science, geography , PE and the arts. It directly supports teachers by providing rigorous and meaningful teaching frameworks. As a result, this allows teachers to spend more time planning creative, personalized learning for their children. Children learn through a series of IPC units of work. Each unit of work has a theme that today’s children find interesting and relevant. Examples of these themes includes Treasure, Animals, Transport, Celebrations and Food.

Within our curriculum, we also integrate: the “Silver Burdett Ginn” Mathematics Program, the “Jolly Phonics” program, the “Scott Foresman Reader” for the 3 – 4 year olds and “Oxford Reading Tree” for the 4 – 5 year olds.

Field Trips

At Beanstalk, field trips and excursions relevant to the children’s classroom studies are considered an integral part of the instructional program. At our kindergarten, the children will take part in a different field trip which is relevant to their IPC unit each month. These excursions compliment and supplement the normal curriculum and can be great cultural experiences for the children. Some of the places the students visit include Beijing Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, the train museum, Sony Science Center and Crab Island Beach.

Club Beanstalk

Club Beanstalk is a one hour extra-curricular program offered between 3 and 4pm, and provides an opportunity for students to develop new skills, make new friends and have lots of fun. Just some of the activities offered through Club Beanstalk include cooking, science club, piano lessons, swimming, arts and crafts, Taekwondo, rollerblading, Lego and English and Chinese language clubs.

The proof is in the smile. Our students are happy about being at school and a walk through our hallways or a visit to our classrooms will show smiling, giggling and chatter as students enjoy learning and growing. We encourage you to contact us to arrange a visit to one of our kindergarten locations and to learn more by following the links on this website.
