Apply to BIBS!
If you are interested in providing a bilingual education for your son or daughter, we’d love to talk to you. Applications to BIBS from both the expatriate and Chinese communities are welcomed throughout the year, with suitable applicants offered seats in our programs. Admission to BIBS is determined by the admissions committee comprised of the school section Principal, an Admissions Officer and Specialists, where needed. Considerations for admission include the student’s age, academic records, availability of space, the student’s interview, and additional evaluation procedures as appropriate. More information on the considerations for admission upon which admission will be granted, our school fees, payment information and more can be found below.
Students’ Academic Potential
Successful admission to BIBS will depend upon proven academic ability. Prospective students must demonstrate appropriate achievement and academic potential for their age group.
English Language Proficiency
The principle language of instruction at BIBS is English. In order to be directly enrolled in a mainstream classroom, students seeking admission to BIBS are expected to have English proficiency appropriate to their age, and in line with the language requirements of their grade level. Students not at appropriate developmental levels may be considered for extra support.
BIBS Admissions Interview Results
The BIBS Admissions Office will arrange an official interview after having received all of the required application documents as required through our online application form, or as requested by an Admissions Officer.
Upon enrolment, students are placed in a grade or section based on their: chronological age, academic evaluations and assessments, past school records, student interview results, and teacher recommendations.
The age cut-off date at BIBS for grade placement is 31 October. Students with birthdays prior to October 31 will usually be grouped with students who have summer birthdays. Students whose birthday falls after October 31 will usually be grouped with students who will be a year younger at the semester’s start. For example: A child who turns six on September 15, will most likely be placed in Grade 1 – while a child who turns six on December 12 will most likely be placed in Kindergarten.
In some cases, students may be considered for placement ahead of students of the same age if they have previously begun a grade level ahead. After a period of teacher assessment, this placement will be reviewed to ensure that the student has been placed correctly. Social development and academic progress are equal factors in placement assessment. Grade placement is the decision of the school Principal and although parent requests will be considered, the school reserves the right to make the final decision. When placing students in classes, BIBS endeavors to create a balance in terms of academic ability, gender, and nationality – as well as taking into account friendship groups and individual student needs.
We hope that you are excited about the educational and social environment at BIBS. We invite you to contact us at any time if you have more questions, or, if you are ready, Apply Today!
