Having a strong group of role models is an important part of ensuring that student voices are heard and that student led initiatives are supported by the community. This week our student leadership team met and began planning out some of their tasks for the year. At this stage I am very impressed by the leadership, organization and initiative I am seeing from this group. Please make sure you support this group in every way possible as they work alongside us to further enhance our school.
I would like to extend a personal thank you to all the parents who have been through the campus these last few weeks and have taken the time to stop in and say hi. It has been wonderful meeting so many parents and getting to know the PTA team. If you have not stopped by the PTA café, I recommend that you do so soon.
Next week is the start of the MSHS Co-curricular program. Students have now made their initial selections and will be informed on Monday if they are able to attend their first choice of program. If any miss out they will still be able to choose other options and join programs in the second season.

The BIBS Elementary School (ES) Shunyi Campus is looking very bright and there is a great deal of excitement in the air. The returning students are re-establishing old friendships and making new ones as well. Our new additions have been settling in and getting to know their new peers and teachers.
Our timetable has diversified since last year with the incorporation of new learning experiences to continue the holistic development of our students academically, socially and emotionally. These change shave been driven by feedback from our students and parents.
The ES personal tutor programme has been initiated and the students have had time to get to know their personal tutors, as will their parents in the days and weeks to come. These personal tutors are there to lend additional pastoral support and guidance for the students as they progress throughout the year.
On Wednesday evening we held our annual Parent’s Night. The turn out from the ES parents was much more than we expected. The Head of School made a presentation followed by the Chinese Principal, and the ASA/YES coordinator, who talked about the activities that will be provided for students who wish to extend their academic and extra-curricular activities further.
Our ES Principal and PYPC, John Nairn welcomed all the new and returning parents to the BIBS ES Family Community at the start of this new academic year. He shared the news about the Shunyi Campus receiving its authorization from the IB for the PYP and thanked the ES staff and the wider school community for their awesome support during the journey towards authorization.
The Parent’s Night was a great success based on the feedback from the parents and staff. The parents noted the new canteen, the newly painted classrooms, the new buses and the new property management team. They also commented on the number of familiar faces among the parents and staff, and welcomed this stability within the school community.

NEW STUDENTS WELCOME PARTY
We love having new students join our campus and we feel it is a privilege to work with all of our families! Today all new students were invited to a special welcome party at lunch. There were ice blocks, sweets, party games, music, plenty of smiles and fun for all in the room as the staff welcomed the students into our campus in fine style. We sincerely hope that they will always remember their time in Dongrun with great fondness.
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
Last night all class teachers made themselves available to explain details related to their classroom and the plans they have for the upcoming semester. It was very encouraging to see such strong parent support at the start of the year and we look forward to a very positive working relationship this year.
CHINESE CULTURAL CLASSES
This week our new Chinese cultural program began with classes taught by specialist tutors and experts. We had GK learn about traditional Chinese characters & patterns, G1 do Chinese painting using freehand brushwork techniques, G2 do Chinese Opera classes, G3 do Chinese Calligraphy, G4 learn to play Chinese drums and G5 learn about Chinese realistic painting.
ASA STARTS SOON
Next week all parents will have the opportunity to sign up for the first block of After School Activities (ASA). This year Sai Sai, who is also the Grade 1 TA will be overseeing the whole ASA and she will be providing detailed information next week about the program. We would like to ask all parents that enrol in ASA to be committed to this program that they do their best to support the ASA program for the entire duration of the program. If there are any questions or concerns please contact our ASA coordinator, Sai Sai via Wechat.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE NOTICE
All parents are advised that BIBS Dongrun does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents wishing to have this type of accident insurance cover will need to contact their own insurance provider. With this in mind, all families can be assured that the staff and school is committed to providing and maintaining a high level of care and supervision to all students but parents should understand that accidents can and sometimes do happen to children in life and it is also possible for this to occur whilst the student is at school.
All parents are asked to support Dongrun Campus by sending their children to school each day with the full school uniform. Students will be expected to wear their uniform each day from Monday to Friday. Teachers have been asked by the Principal to ensure that students are in full school uniform each day and therefore your support of such requests by the teachers is greatly appreciated.
